We had a great 4th of July again this year. We first started off with breakfast in our church parking lot bright and early - it started at 7:30 in the morning and we almost missed it when we showed up at 8:15 (why so early on a holiday?? It's mind boggling.) They had wheat pancakes with red and blue food coloring in them and turkey bacon (I guess someone thinks healthy on the activities committe) - Tommy really liked the blue pancakes and actually ate two of them, which if you know Tommy, is a real feat.
Later on, we went to the Monterey city parade which I love because it is so classically small town. We saw our friend Jon Burton there and he commented that it seemed like just one straight ad to him as people dressed in plain clothes just walked down the street holding signs for some product. I, of course, love this about the parade- it makes me laugh. There are a few other groups besides the ads, too - like the dancing grandma tap dancers (another thing that makes me laugh.) The belly dancers were glaringly absent this year - and in my opinion, it's just not a parade without belly dancers.
After the parade, we went to the city hall grounds for some music and food. We again bought the tempura mushrooms from the boy scout fund raising booth but we didn't stay as long this year as the kids seemed a little worn out.
