Happy New Year!

Yes, it's a New Year. So, Happy New Year!

July 1 is a very important day in medicine - it is our New Year where everything turns over - new doctors fresh from medical school officially start their residency, old residents graduate and start jobs, and those like myself, who have been out of residency for a few years, tick another mark off in our years of experience. (July is a scary time to be sick in a teaching hospital with all those new doctors!) It seems a long time ago that we started this path - officially ten years ago that we moved to Virginia to start medical school! It's gone fast and slow - it feels like a lifetime of experiences in a short ten years. Maybe the New Year will bring more wrinkles to my face and patients will quit asking how old I am. Though knowing me, I'll probably be upset when that happens and feel TOO old.

But this July 1 is especially poignant - as of today, Dave is officially partner in his pathology group!! This is a big deal for us and apparently for his partners as well because they had a party for him at work to congratulate him. (Cake remnants were sent home to me as pictured above.) So Woo-hoo, Dave! Here's to more time off!! And Happy New Year to all!! (Don't get sick.)
